The other benefit is that the computer becomes unnecessary with the UPnP media server running on the NAS.Īll this becomes moot, if you are not running and using MinimServer (or any other UPnP media server for that matter) on the NAS where the music files are stored and are also thinking of using the computer as the UPnP control point (eg via JRiver's GUI). This therefore doesn't burden the network with double the amount of data that JRiver as a UPnP media server running on the computer does (JRiver not only uses the network to actually provide the streaming UPnP media data to the Rendu UPnP renderer, but it also uses it to initially access the file data from the NAS's network shared folders in the first place). The main advantage of using MinimServer as the UPnP media server over JRiver is that it can potentally run on the NAS itself, so have direct access to the music files stored on it.

That is my PC will only be used to run JRiver, with all the files and audio processing NOT going through my PC.No, you should still be able to use JRiver's own library as the UPnP media server (instead of MinimServer) for the Rendu, if you wish, just make sure JRiver is not set to transcode, ie, do any audio processing on the files while they are being streamed by the Rendu. I understand that I can keep my same work flow: NAS - Router - Rendu SSR - DAC, but use JRiver as the GUI. The Naim Supernait 3 is the top of the range in Naim's integrated model line-up.It handles line level sources and sports an MM phono input for your turntable, has 80 very dynamic Naim Watts per channel, and importantly, shows off the rhythmic and dynamic prowess normally associated with Naim's pre-power combos.
Renaming minimserver full#
For lossy input streams (AAC and MP3), a floating-point conversion is performed with full 24-bit precision. For lossless 16-bit input streams (FLAC and ALAC), the audio samples are extended to 24 bits by padding each sample with zeros. Listening to files on a NAS, and using MinimServer, BubbleUPnp, and Lumin resulted in a vast improvement in SQ, but although all my files are correctly tagged in JRiver, MinimServer is extremely picky and it's display of the NAS's library is full of errors, and deletions, to the point that it's just about unusable. Valid for local files and network streams. If you have an existing installation of MinimServer 0.8, you can continue to use it with some limitations.

Renaming minimserver update#
Previously I used JRiver on my dedicated audio PC with no problems. Latest change (3) MinimServer update 218 has been released NEW MinimServer 2 has replaced MinimServer 0.8 on all platforms for new installations. Hopefully I'm posting this to the correct forum.
